Our Mission

Our Mission
all those forms of social intervention that have a primary and direct concern with promoting both the well-being of the individual and of the society as a whole.
Social welfare includes those provisions of social problems, the development of human resources, and the improvement of the quality of life. It involves social services to individuals and families as well as efforts to strengthen or modify social institutions.

– Romanyshyn, Social Welfare: Charity to Justice, CSWE, 1971: p. 3

The discipline of social welfare aims to improve human welfare and quality of life, especially for those who are socially disadvantaged or in vulnerable situations. Our mission is to commit ourselves to tackling and preventing major social problems, supporting community development, and constructing systems of social protection.

The major fields of our study are twofold: social policy and social work.
Social Policy
concerns systems of social security and welfare institutions that promote quality of life.

Topics include social insurance policies such as public pensions, national health insurance and employment insurance schemes. Students in this field are also interested in social inequality, gender and family policy, and comparative welfare state analysis.

Social Work

fosters professional skills for social practice and provides training for developing and evaluating social intervention programs.

The field covers broad topics including child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, gender inequality, welfare of people with disabilities, poverty, homelessness, and social exclusion of minorities and vulnerable people.
